The 2025 season of the Castle of Miradolo (S. Secondo Pinerolo, TO) opens with the exhibition Of Herbs and Flowers. Herbaria d'autore. From Besler to Penone, De Pisis to Cage.
The exhibition explores the link between art and nature through historical herbaria and contemporary works. It juxtaposes works by artists such as Giuseppe Penone, Filippo De Pisis, Wolfgang Laib, Piero Gilardi and Betty Danon with the herbaria of scholars such as Basilius Besler, Carlo Allioni and Ada and Alfonso Sella.
The exhibition investigates the human need to classify and measure the world, the fragility of matter and the connection between nature, memory and art. More than 30 works from private collections and museum institutions offer a reflection on the relationship between past and present, reality and imagination. The works range from installations, sculpture and painting to experiments with natural materials, such as pollen, flowers and herbs.
The exhibition is curated by the Fondazione Cosso and Roberto Galimberti, with iconographic advice from Enrica Melossi.
Sound installation curated by Avant-dernière pensée.
