History

Parco Giardino Sigurtà, owned by the Sigurtà family, is a naturalistic oasis just a few kilometres from Lake Garda and easily reachable from the cities of Verona, Brescia and Mantua. Recipient of the Most Beautiful Park in Italy award in 2013, and in 2015 of the Second Most Beautiful Park in Europe award, its 600,000 square metres scale and its and extraordinary blooms are fascinating attraction for hundreds of thousands of visitors of all ages year after year.

Woods with centuries-old trees, boundless lawns, stretches of water, special points of interest and breath-taking views; these and much more make up the treasury that the Sigurtà Park has been the custodian of for more than six centuries.
Not to be missed when visiting the park are Tulipanomania, the extraordinary flowering of more than a million tulips that in March and April, together with hyacinths, muscari and narcissus, colours the lawns and woods in ever renewed forms, as one of the most important collection of blooms in the world; the 40,000 boxwood plants, the Great Lawn, the famous Avenue of the Roses with 30,000 re-flowering old roses, and the Maze with its 1,500 yew trees that wind around a tower. There is much else besides to discover, including the 50 varieties of annuals in summer and early autumn on the Flowerbed Avenue, the hundreds of multicoloured water lilies that are the stars of the show in the summer months, the Hermitage, a small neo-Gothic temple dating back to 1792, and the Castelletto from the end of the 18th century, a historic site where many prestigious meetings of scientists, including Nobel Prize winners, were held.
For the children, on the other hand, the Farm is a must-visit location, a place where they can meet farmyard animals such as the Paduan hen, and enjoy the Deer Valley, where these beautiful animals roam. In this agricultural area of the Park there are also the Lessinia sheep to meet, as well as the San Domenico donkeys.
The park can be visited on foot, by bicycle, either on your own bike or by renting one from the Garden where standard and electric versions are available, or aboard the panoramic train with a voice-guide, in the electric shuttle accompanied by a guide, or driving in comfortable electric golf-carts equipped with GPS satellite tracking systems.

Green Certification - eco-sustainable initiatives and strategies

The Park is actively committed to promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. Over the years, it has implemented several initiatives.

1. In the botanical and technical sectors, the Park adopts eco-sustainable practices, including the management of organic waste. A portion of the leaves collected during autumn is composted to repot plants and fertilize flower beds, thereby reducing waste and promoting soil fertility. Additionally, vegetative propagation strategies are preferred to minimize the annual purchase of plants.
2. The Park is also a promoter of biodiversity, highlighting its importance through two educational paths: ''The Traveling Seed'' emphasizes the significance of crop diversification, and ''Bees: Friends of Biodiversity'' allows visitors to explore the world of bees up close through educational hives and informative displays. Informative signs in the Medicinal Plants Garden further underscore the critical role of insects, educating future generations about biodiversity conservation.
3. In its public services, environmental awareness has been evident for over a decade, with biodegradable materials used in all dining areas. Near the Bar Iris and the Bar della Fattoria, visitors can find eco-compactors for recycling plastic beverage bottles. These simple and efficient machines process PET bottles (ranging from 0.5 to 3 liters) into materials suitable for new food-grade packaging.
4. Informational materials are printed on paper sourced from responsibly managed forests using vegetable-based inks. The Park also collaborates with the Center for Creative Reuse and Sustainability of the Municipality of Verona, donating exhibition materials to promote recycling and the circular economy. This initiative transforms waste into educational and creative resources.
5. Water fountains are available along the paths for visitors to refill their bottles for free, and educational workshops on environmental topics aim to encourage conscious consumption.
6. The Park supports sustainable mobility by joining the Bicycle-Friendly Business Club, offering charging stations for electric bikes, and promoting cycling through its communication channels. Rental vehicles are electric, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. Events at the Park are also environmentally friendly.

Over the years, the Park has received accolades for its green initiatives, including the European Award for Ecological Gardening in 2017 and the Imprendigreen certification by Confcommercio, with a five-star sustainability rating in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

How to get here

By car
- From the Autostrada A4 motorway, take Peschiera del Garda exit, then 8 km in the direction of Valeggio sul Mincio.
- From the Autostrada A22, (the Brennero-Modena motorway): coming from the Modena side, take the Nogarole Rocca exit and follow the signs for Valeggio sul Mincio.
- Coming from the Brenner side, take the dual carriageway SS450 for Peschiera del Garda and then follow the signs for Valeggio sul Mincio.

The Park has free car parks for its visitors (600 meters from the Park entrance).

By train
Verona Porta Nuova railway station; take ATV bus to Valeggio sul Mincio

From Brescia: there is an interurban ATV bus, number LN026 Brescia - Desenzano - Sirmione - Peschiera – Verona (see website www.arriva.it ). From Malcesine: there is an interurban ATV bus, number 483 Malcesine - Garda - Peschiera - S.Benedetto (see website www.atv.verona.it) to get to Peschiera del Garda. From Mantua or from Peschiera del Garda there is an interurban APAM bus, number 46 Mantua-Valeggio-Peschiera d/G (see website www.apam.it).

By bike
The park is only 1 km from the Mantova-Peschiera del Garda cycle path. The route is also suitable for less experienced cyclists and children and is of medium length with no particular difficulties.
