Horti - Almo Collegio Borromeo
Horti is the 35,000 square meters park that Almo Collegio Borromeo – the oldest university college of merit in Italy – redeveloped as a public space. Here natural habitats, contemporary art, cultural reflection, ethical commitment, equity and social inclusion are interconnected. It is located in the historic center of Pavia, near the Ticino River.
This area, once dedicated to the cultivation of vegetables and orchards for the College's students, is now a place for socializing and interweaving of knowledge.
Horti, inaugurated in September 2022, was born from an intuition of the rector of Collegio Borromeo Alberto Lolli, animated by the conviction that beauty has a redemptive and pedagogical force.
It is a nature park (Horti.Oasi), which thanks to new waterways, flowery meadow areas, the planting of over 3,000 new plants and shrubs and the installation of bird feeders and nests, insect houses and hives, encloses various natural habitats to safeguard biodiversity.
Horti is also an art garden (Horti.Art), because works of art by some of the most significant interpreters of our time are installed and created in dialogue with nature and the pre-existing historical and archaeological architectures.
Finally, Horti is an ethical project (Horti.Ethics) because it is deeply committed to sharing value objectives by promoting social inclusion, solidarity and the defense of sustainability and equity with a growing territorial network.
The Horti Study Center coordinates the cultural proposal creating open interdisciplinary and transversal dialogues between multiple knowledge and perspectives on the theme of living, through several initiatives and meetings.
