Villa Ghirlanda Silva
Villa Ghirlanda Silva, located in the city center, consists of the homonymous residence with attached gardens.
The natural component of the park consists of a large area of lawn surrounded by trees that thicken toward the perimeter walls. There are many examples of trees of large size, some of which are centuries old, while the paths still show some historic buildings and furnishings, some of which – like the Scottish Lodge and Swiss Chalet – have been renovated in the last decade and used as headquarters of the main organizations that operate within the area.
Born as a formal garden as wished by Donato Silva, it was freed from the rigid patterns imposed by the Enlightenment through the intervention of his nephew Ercole Silva. Ercole gave body to the idea of informal garden which found practical application in Cinisello in which the straight avenues were transformed into winding paths immersed in the vegetation, which became more dense, majestic and free, to document the triumph of nature, concealing the existence of an overall project clearly defined. The “English” park is returned in the literary description of the Villa of 1811, while the illustrations of the Treaty documents the progress made at the beginning of the nineteenth century, when they were stationed in the park the ruins of a temple of Janus and the Temple of Fortune Avita on a hill.
The last intervention on the historical park is datable in the mid-nineteenth century and conception of Carlo Ghirlanda Silva. The variants, consisting in the introduction of flare -Gothic and eclectic architectures, are recorded in the editions of 1843 and 1855 from the description of the Villa Silva in Cinisello.
Owned by the city since 1926, the area was affected by an agronomic recovery intervention in 1999 and it is the subject of ongoing maintenance work.
Currently the site is used as a public green area and is equipped with service facilities ranging from children's games to the fixed structure for the summer cinema.
