Roseto Vacunae Rosae
The rose garden Vacunae Rosae is situated in the wooded area of the Goddess Vacunae, the goddess of fertility and well being of the Sabina.
At the entrance, there is a garden of stones, inspired by the Far East, where the visitor can meditate on the beauty and destiny of the rose and from where the “visitor” starts an intellectual ascent towards the paradise garden.
The scenery is delimited by bearing gateways, covered by walls of roses. The entire circumference is crowned by sets of garlands with an amazing chromatic variation for 800 meters.
On the exterior of the whole garden, one can admire sacred trees that love roses, almonds, pomegranate and tamarisk.
The planimetrical configuration of the rose garden forms the shape of an angel's wing and can boast as many as 7.000 rose bushes with not less than 5.000 species.
The rose garden proposes an historical, cultural and artistic journey into the world of roses.
The 130 sections and itineraries of the rose garden are thematic. In each section, there is a group of homogeneous roses, divided into various families, according either to the history or their colours and .
The axis of the garden is marked by the running of water of 9 fountains, from the irradiating fountain of Virgo (south-east) to the warming fountain of Vacunae (north-west). The physical summit of the garden is the symbol of the Virgin and Virgo feeds directly the fountain of Pantera, the sacred animal of Dioniso.
The pool of Psyche, located between Virgo and Vacunae, is the center of the garden, where all the water is collected, and appears hidden in a labyrinth of roses. The exit of the labyrinth is via a stairway and an elevated bridge which offers a 360 degree view of the garden.
From Psyche, the water runs towards the Viator basin, representing the pilgrim who starts the ascent of wisdom and is blessed by the water.
Before reaching Viator, the water of Psyche runs through Sirr, the secret fountain and place of meditation of the wise orientals. Pshyche and Stirr also receive water from Libra, the font of equilibrium and wisdom, in symmetric contrast with Evoč, the idle musical fountain, entreaties of Dioniso.
Located at the extreme north east of the garden, which is the tip of the angel's wing, there is Hirundo, the swallow fountain, whose waters also flow into Viator to gladden his meditation and into Vacunae to announce the eternal Spring.
