Music in the most beautiful italian gardens!
Dear readers,
from now on, I am going to write our newsletter.
Through this newsletter, I thought to tell you the “behind the scene” of Grandi Giardini Italiani, the network I found in 1997 and to which more than 120 gardens belong.
On 6th May we organized the presentation of our Garden Books, edited by Grandi Giardini Italiani, at Princes Pallavicini's Casino dell'Aurora Pallavicini in Rome. Umberta Patrizi Montoro presented her book “Il Giardino dei Pensieri”. In this dreamlike book there are also some watercolours made by Umberta. Then, the Arch. Paolo Pejrone and his friend Maria Sanminiatelli talked about the lake she created in her garden San Liberato.
Thirdly, Paolo Fulceri Camerini and Marco Castagna introduced “Il Giardino del Negombo”, remembering the writer and journalist Anna Maria Botticelli, died prematurely on April. The sorrow for my friend was been alleviated just talking about her Garden Book. It is like a dream thiniking about people on the border of thermal pools reading her book. At Giardino del Negombo worked more than 100 people, in a very collaborative way all year round. For instance, during the winter, cook and housekeeper work together with gardeners and landscape architech Ermanno Casasco. A very peculiar team!
Maria Pace Ottieri illustrated the personality of Axel Munthe, a person who lived his Mediterranean dream in Villa San Michele. There were also Mrs. de Mistura with her husband, the Ambassador Staffan de Mistura. From last year, they have been managing the Villa San Michele Foundation (in the Villa there is a new bar with a beautiful view on the gulf of Naples and a perfect service!). The Villa San Michele is a “must” in the summer. I suggest to attend to at least one of the concerts that occour regularly during the sunset.
Prof. Pietro Pavone presented “L'orto botanico di Catania”, written by Clare Littlewood. The Garden Book tells the story about all the people who managed Orto Botanico di Catania, the Professor included.
Last but not least, it was presented the latest Garden Book written by Francesca Paolucci delle Roncole, “Montericco – Un giardino testimone del tempo”. Francesca told the history of the Pasolini Dall'Ondas. In fact, they created the garden and the labirinth, showing the transformation of Montericco since 1700.
Everything occured during a sunny day, the Casino dell'Aurora Pallavicini was really beautiful, with the audience and friends of Grandi Giardini Italiani. The event was sponsored by Federico Buccellati, who exhibited some jewels inspired to nature. There were also a pin with a cardoon (the symbol of Scotland!) that tempted me a lot. Alas! I am investing everything in Grandi Giardini Italiani!
If you would like to participate to the next presentation of our Garden Book (alway on reservation and limited number please write us at eventi@grandigiardini.it or at the number +39 031 756211.
On 18 May His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales organized a cocktail for Grandi Giardini Italiani at Clarence House, London. The Prince has a deep interest for gardens, especially for the italian gardens. In fact, he did not hesitate in expressing his opinion about the problems of the environment. He wanted to know each of the guests: his welcoming was amazing. The event was wonderful, even if a bit difficult because of security measures.
To me it was like the coronation of so many years of work, a prestigious appreciationt to every garden. I was deeply touched by presenting every owner and every curator of Grandi Giardini Italiani, very classy and excited as well.
Anyway, now is the moment to go to visit the gardens where all the flowering is highest magnificence. Do not loose it!
