From 6 April to 31 August Villa Carlotta (Tremezzina, CO) is hosting an exhibition entitled The Duke's Silverware.
The exhibition showcases a selection of silver and metal furnishings from the collections of Villa Carlotta, a rich collection exemplifying English, German and French silver production between the 19th and 20th centuries. These objects belonged to the Dukes of Sachsen-Meiningen, the last owners of the villa, and testify to the luxury and refinement of the receptions and etiquette lunches that the family used to give on the lake.
Restorations and recent cataloguing campaigns have made it possible to gain a deeper insight into the provenance and working techniques of these artefacts, which are leaving the museum's storerooms to be shown and told to the public.
