Sigurtā Garden Park

Sigurtā Garden Park, owned by the Sigurtā family, is an oasis of nature on a hill just a few kilometres from Lake Garda and the cities of Mantua and Verona. Prizewinner as Italy's most beautiful Park in 2013, thanks to its extensive size of 600,000 square meters and its annual flowerings that follow on season upon season, the Park has charmed millions of visitors over the forty years since it opened to the public. Woods that are home to centuries-old trees like the Great Oak, lawns that stretch into the distance, points of interest that catch the eye and move the soul: these and much more besides make up the treasury that the park has cared for for many centuries, with the original garden dating back to 1407.

Things not to miss on a visit to the Park include: Tulipanomania, the extraordinary bursting into flower of over a million tulips in the months of March and April with the hyacinths, muscari and narcissus that emblazon with colour the lawns of the Park in one of the most world's greatest flower displays; 40,000 woodland plants, 18 ornamental lakes, the famous Avenue of the Roses with its 30,000 flowering roses, an image that has always symbolised the Park, and the Maze created from 1500 yew trees. And there is more, with 50 varieties of annual plants that bring still more colour to the summer, and with the onset of autumn there is the Flowerbed Avenue, the hundreds of water lilies that take a leading role in the summer months, the Hermitage built in 1792 in the neo-Gothic style, and the Castelletto, housing historic memories of meetings of leading scientist and Nobel Prize winners. For the children the Educational Farm is the perfect place for them to learn all about how the turkeys, donkeys and chickens live, as well as somewhere they can take part in all kinds of fun educational activities.

A rich calendar of events designed to offer something for people of all ages and interests: including the Spring Fun Run, the Children's Day, the Magical World of Cosplay (for fans of the world of cartoons and fantasy), the Buskers Park day, and free guided tours of the Vintage Garden. Last year The World Tulip Society has bestowed on The Sigurtā Garden Park its World Tulip Destination Worth Travelling For award, given for excellence in the promotion and celebration of the tulip. The Park can be visited on foot, by bicycle (with your bike or renting one from the Garden, electrical or traditional bicycles available), aboard the panoramic train, or in a comfortable electrical golf cart with GPS navigation.

Gardening is a journey that makes me go and discover the whole world without ever having to leave my ground for a moment.
